Sitting along the banks of the Red Cedar river, Spartan Stadium is home to the Michigan State University football team.

Originally opened in 1923, Spartan Stadium has been expanded numerous times over the years, and currently seats 75,005. In 2002 Spartan Stadium switched from an Astroturf field to a modular natural grass system developed by one of the nations top turfgrass programs from Michigan State University.
Spartan Stadium is currently holds the world record for the largest crowd to attend an ice hockey game. On October 6, 2001, Michigan State played the University of Michigan to a 3-3 tie, with 74,554 in attendance to watch the game.
Spartan Stadium has been among the the NCAA’s top 25 in attendance in each of the last 53 years. In 2002, Mel Kiper, Jr. picked Spartan Stadium as the 8th most scenic in the nation.

In 2005, Spartan Stadium completed a two-year, $64M expansion project to add 24 luxury suites, 800 club seats, a Grand Entrance (and the current home of the original Sparty statue), office space of the MSU alumni association and Spartan Athletic Office, and 3,000 seats.
