Not nearly as many good games on tap, but it really doesn’t matter since it’s rivalry week in East Lansing. Will this be the week that exposes the Michigan defense and gives the Wolverines their first loss, or will U-M rebound after losing to MSU last year 35-21. Other games on the slate include Wisconsin and Minnesota battling for the axe, and Northwestern visiting a Purdue team that has played well but is just 1-3 so far this year. I’m 30-8 going into the season, let’s see what happens this weekend.
#22 Michigan at Michigan State (Noon)
Line: Michigan State by 2
Prediction: I can see this game going so many different ways. If it rains and Forcier is healthy, Michigan could run away with it. If it stays dry and Forcier really is hurt (or gets hurt), I can see the Spartans winning handily. But most likely, I see this being a pretty close game with the potential for a ton of points to be scored. My prediction is somewhat conservative, I’m going 34-28 MSU.
Wisconsin at Minnesota (Noon)
Line: Minnesota by 3
Prediction: The battle for the axe has both teams coming off of solid wins, with Wisconsin defeating MSU and Minnesota beating Northwestern in a very competitive game. When the season started, I wasn’t drinking the Kool-Aid on Minnesota, but after watching the Adam Weber to Eric Decker combo I’m starting to be a believer. This weekend could be a big step for the Gopher. 35-31 Minnesota wins.
Northwestern at Purdue (Noon)
Line: Purdue by 7
Prediction: Purdue has played pretty darn good games against Toledo, Oregon and Notre Dame. Then they played like a corpse against Northern Illinois. What Purdue team will we get against the Mildcats? Hard to say, but it’s homecoming and I’m taking the Boilers 31-28.
Arkansas State at #13 Iowa (12:05 PM EST)
Line: Iowa by 21
Prediction: Iowa has shown itself as being among the best teams in the Big Ten four weeks into the season. They’ll get a bit of a break against Arkansas State this weekend in Iowa City. Iowa rolls, 38-3.
#15 Penn State at Illinois (3:30 PM EST)
Line: Penn State by 6 1/2
Prediction: Penn State is coming off a tough loss to Iowa last week in Happy Valley. Illinois suffered an embarrassing defeat to Ohio State. Neither team has lived up to expectations this season. One team gets to get back on track, I’m going with the Nittany Lions 27-17.
#9 Ohio State at Indiana (7:00 PM EST)
Line: Ohio State by 16
Prediction: The Hoosiers played a valiant game against the Wolverines before getting robbed by the Big Ten officials on a botched dual possession call. It has less to do with the Hoosiers being a good team, and more to do with Michigan having a porous defense. Ohio State will dominate Indiana, 42-17.
