Spartan-Football.com has been up for about a month and a half now, and things have really started to take off. The site traffic is growing steadily, and our Facebook fan page is up to over 1,500 followers which is really great.
When I started this project, I knew that it was going to take up a lot of time and effort to build up the reader base and create the content needed to have a great site. Right now I’m able to put out about five structured posts per week (Know Thy Enemy game previews, After the Chaos recaps, Big Ten weekly predictions and reviews, and Sparty’s Links) and then a couple of additional posts per week that aren’t really scheduled.
Now that the readership is starting to increase, I would really like to be able to create more content for people to engage with. I want to add a perspective and a voice to the blog that is different than my own. Bottom line, I want to add another writer (or possibly two) to the blog.
It’s an open casting call. I’m looking for someone who has better football insight than me (trust me, it’s really not hard), who can reasonably ascertain what “voice” is and how it pertains to writing for a blog (especially a blog’s audience), and most importantly is a die-hard Spartan football fan. This isn’t a guest blogger gig where you would create a post every so often, I’m looking for someone who really would like to write on a consistent basis.
If you are interested, send me an email at eric@spartan-football.com.
How many posts are we talking about?
As many as you want to put out, as long as they’re not garbage. Quality, not quantity. Probably in the neighborhood of 2-3 posts per week at a minimum.
Do I have to know computer programming so I can post to the site?
Absolutely not. I’m not looking for a programmer, I’m looking for a fan who can write. The blog runs on a web-based system (WordPress) so you can post from anywhere you have an internet connection. It’s really easy to learn.
Do I get paid for this?
That’s depends on what your definition of “paid” is. If by “paid” you mean “the respect and admiration of the readership of a few thousand MSU football junkies who feverishly hit the refresh button on their browser waiting for new posts to hit the site,” then yes! If by “paid” you mean “receive monetary compensation,” then not so much.
Really, not even like a t-shirt or something?
Fine, but only if I get to pick the shirt.
Alright, this sounds pretty cool. Where do I sign up?
Here. Tell me why you want to write for the site and any non-journalistic qualifications that you may have. Wit and quasi-literary prowess will be given preference.
