After seeing the streets of East Lansing painted Green and White following the Michigan victory, two new commitments were picked up for the 2010 Spartan Football Roster.
Upcoming freshmen Keith Mumphrey and Kurtis Drummond watched eagerly in Spartan Stadium as the Spartans beat Michigan 26-20 in overtime.
Mumphrey, a Wide Receiver out of Vienna, Georgia (Dooly County High School) caught 49 passes for 972 yards as a junior in high school in 2008. The WR also had 78 tackles and two interceptions. Following the season, Mumphrey made the Class A First-Team All-Area, All-Region and All-State. He will join Tony Lippett of Detroit Crockett Vocational Tech as the second WR in 2010′s recruiting class.
The 6’0” 195 lb. Spartan considered Arkansas, Nebraska and was recruited by Oklahoma State before verbally committing to Michigan State on Monday. He is the second commit Dantonio picked up from Georgia for the 2010 season.
Kurtis Drummond, a safety out of Hubbard, Ohio (Hubbard High School) is a versatile athlete who, in his 16 receptions for 270 yards, scored five touchdowns and had three interceptions in 2008, his junior year. Before choosing Michigan State, Drummond checked out the Wolverines and the Boilermakers, but committed to the East Lansing team following their big win over UM on October 4.
The 6’2” 195 lb. Spartan could line up on the OL, DL, or Special Teams next fall.
Drummond would have been a good addition to this year’s squad at safety as Seniors Roderick Jenrette and Kendell Davis-Clark are suffering injuries.
According to gospartans.net, Drummond is unsure what positions he’d like to cover, “That’s actually something I’ve been thinking a lot about,” he said. “I’m not sure which side of the ball I want to play on.”
Drummond’s mindset is something coaches love to see. An upcoming freshman who has his mind set on versatility.
Both commitments have impressive high school stats and should prove to be a great asset to the upcoming freshman team. They have great examples in their positions, including BJ Cunningham and Mark Dell at Wide Receiver as well as Marcus Hyde at Safety.
Welcome to Green and White Country, Keith and Kurtis!
