After discovering that MSU is planning to update the current helmet logo to a new logo, I thought it would be fun to take  a look back through the years at some of logos we’ve used in the past for displaying our Spartan pride.

This one looks more like a chicken helmet than anything aggressive or intimidating.  Apparently this helmet allowed the Spartan army to ravage the enemy who would be doubled over laughing at the absurdity of the chicken helmet.

More helmets after the jump.

Gotta admit, I’ve never seen this one in action before, although I’m sure there’s some East Lansing hipster who’s sporting a neon-green sweater with this bad boy emblazoned on the front.

Greatest helmet logo of all time?  Debatable, but there’s no doubt this is the favorite logo of those who rock the old school MSU look.  Strikes me as a combination of Popeye and Jim Belushi.

For many of us, this is the helmet logo was are most familiar with.

Since I’m a relatively recent MSU grad, and I’ve grown up with the most recent helmet logo, that’s the one I prefer, although the Brutus-esque helmet logo is probably one of the best old school logos of any school in the nation.
