We’re just over a week away from kickoff. If you’re not peeing your pants, you don’t deserve to be here. Seriously.
Preseason camp is over, and the players are off until Monday next week. But the big news of the week is going to hit on Tuesday, when Coach Dantonio says he is going to name a starter at quarterback for the Montana State game.
The intrigue started yesterday, as Kirk Cousins was named one of four captains for the football team this fall (and only the second sophomore captain in 112 years). How much can we read into this? Probably not much. The selection process for starting quarterback and captain are completely different. The coaches, and primarily Coach D, select the quarterback. The players and coaches each get one vote when selecting the captain. In all of the interviews I have seen with him, Cousins has had poise with the media and has said all the right things. He is confident and exudes leadership. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s the guy who puts MSU in the best position to win. So we’ll just have to wait until Tuesday to get a lot more insight into that.
In the meantime, who do you think will be the quarterback in 2009? Not just the quarterback for the Montana State game, but the guy throughout the 2009 football season?
