Yep, that’s right Spartans, we are now optimized for your mobile viewing pleasure!

You may be asking, “why optimize for a mobile device?  Your site is such a good looking place to hang out.”  Thank you, we flattered.  Really, you’re too kind.

Actually, there’s a few reasons we’ve optimized for mobile.  First, over 5% of our visitors checked us out from an iPhone or iPod Touch.  While that may seem like a small percentage, we feel like it’s big enough to take these visitors into account and offer up an optimal browsing experience.  Second, the load time is much faster.  By going with a lighter site architecture for a mobile unit, the site load time is about 70% faster.  Third, by using a mobile template, it’s a lot easier to view and navigate the content on the site.  Commenting is a breeze, and it’s much easier to click through the pages in the main site navigation.

We’ve also added a custom home screen icon, called a webclip icon, to Spartan-Football.com’s mobile site (actually, it exists for both the mobile and non-mobile versions of the site).  Now when you add Spartan-Football.com to your iPhone or iPod touch home screen, you’ll probably see something similar to this:

All you need to do to add Spartan-Football.com to your home screen is navigate to the site on your iPhone or iPod Touch, tap the plus (+) icon at the bottom of the Safari application, and then tap “Add to Home Screen.”  We recommend changing the text below the webclip, since the default “Spartan Football” will get shortened.  But that’s your call.

Of course, if you decide that you would prefer the normal site on your mobile device, you can click on the “Exit the Mobile Edition” link at the bottom of each site page.

Let us know how you like the mobile version of the site, and as always, go State!
