We’re just 13 days away from OMG OMG OMG!!!! opening kickoff!!! Seriously I have hives, I can hardly contain myself (previous statement may or may not be true). In true reliable Sparty fashion, here are your MSU football links from the past week.
- You like TV? We like TV! Actually, since I live in Chicago I didn’t get to see the debut of “Spartan Football All-Access”, which aired Monday at 7:00 PM.
- Rex has the stats from the first scrimmage that was held on Tuesday. For analysis, The Only Colors, Rex and MLive provide a recap.
- Probably the most telling information we have about how the eventual starting quarterback will be chosen is directly from the coaches, and that’s what Joe Rexrode has for us as he talked to QB coach Dave Warner.
- ESPN’s Outside the Lines recently ran a feature on former Michigan State standout wide receiver Charles Rogers.
- Former Michigan State wide receiver Plaxico Burress was sentenced to two years in prison for his weapons charge in New York City.
- Michigan State announced that the football team will play Central, Western and Eastern Michigan Universities 12 times over the next 10 years. MSU will host each team three times, and will play on the road against each team once in the ten year time span while keeping seven home games at Spartan Stadium. MLive says it’s a win for the Spartans. I agree, but disagree with a select few of the points.
- MLive talks with senior defensive end Trevor Anderson.
- Rex talks about D.J. Young and his transferring from Bowling Green to Michigan State. The quote that hit me:
“It was a little bit of everything, just being back where I wanted to be,” he said. “I did get choked up, having little kids wearing their Spartan gear and you know, it’s just, everyone is a Spartan fan up here and it just felt great, it felt like I was right at home.”
- The Spartans are ranked (or, well, unranked but whatever) as the fourth “others receiving votes” team in the Associated Press preseason poll. The Only Colors argues that MSU isn’t in the Associated Press’ Top 25 because preseason polls are largely predicated on a team’s performance from the previous season, and the national perception is that last year MSU’s success was based solely on Javon Ringer. I can’t say that I disagree with Steve’s logic.
- Second scrimmage was Friday. Detroit News covers it here. Twitter sized recap: 99 plays. Cousins beats Nichol. Caper stands out.
