VIDEO: Golden Tate Jumps into Marching Band, Is Still a Douche

If you watched the Michigan State football game against Notre Dame on Saturday, you likely saw Irish receiver Golden Tate douche it up by jumping into the MSU marching band after catching a touchdown pass from Jimmy Clausen.  Here’s the video:

Can someone explain to me how Tate doesn’t get flagged for this?  How does this not fall under the excessive celebration part of the NCAA rule book?  Tate catches the pass, slows down as he approaches the band, and then swan-dives into the saxophone section.

I wonder what Charlie Weis’ reaction is to this, especially after he made a stink about Michigan’s Jonas Moutan apparently punching Notre Dame’s Eric Olsen in the helmet:

I can understand Weis’ gripe about the Moutan incident, I mean it’s not much of a shot, but it’s pretty clear that he closes a fist and hits Olsen when he could have just walked away.  But Tate’s move was blatant.

I’m not saying Dantonio should have said something, it’s really not his place to bring it up.  But the director of the MSU band should have said something, and maybe he has and I just haven’t heard about it.  It was an arrogant and frankly dangerous move that could have injured someone that might have landed on.

Props to the band though for letting Tate fall flat on his face as they pretty much just parted like the Red Sea.

What do you think?  There’s really no question that Tate should have been flagged, but is this something that deserves a suspension?
