On Monday, we ask readers of Spartan-Football.com as MSU fans whether or not they liked being referred to as a “Sparty”.
The results are in, and Spartan nation has spoken. Forty-seven percent of fans said that they did not like being referred to as a Sparty. Meanwhile, 40% of respondents said they were fine with the term, while 13% didn’t care on way or the other.
Some of the responses we received on Twitter:
From @brockter
@Spartan_FB disgusting. It’s like saying the “Democrat Party”.
From @CrazyMSULady
@Spartan_FB I love Sparty, the mascot, just don’t want to be called one…
From @kristenbyers
@Spartan_FB [OMG I HATE BEING CALLED THAT SO MUCH]
From @MSUUnion
@Spartan_FB We prefer ‘Spartan,’ thanks!
We are going to keep the poll open, so if you haven’t voted yet but would like to, go for it! In the meantime, we’re going to refrain from using the term Spartys to refer to Spartan nation.
