Ethics
You gotta put it down when you start, otherwise you’re tempted to compromise as you go along.
Minor Errors and Typos
Minor factual errors, missing punctuation, awkward construction and the like will be corrected without notice. Let’s just consider it general blog cleanup and quality control.
Posts will not be deleted. Even if I wrote it while slightly intoxicated after the coach has just slapped himself in the face at a press conference.
Blog Ethics
If I discover information or use a quote from your blog, I’ll link to your site. Occasionally I’ll miss a few. If you find that I am quoting you and didn’t give you a hat tip, just send me an email and let me know.
I’ll try to keep the flame wars to a minimum. Sure, it’s a ton of fun to totally blast the rival, but it’s not particularly intelligent and tends to not add much value to the marketplace of ideas.
If I do quote something from your site, I will not quote the whole post (unless the post is really, really short)…I’m not a feed aggregator. The goal here is to keep things original and add to the discussion, not just regurgitate it.
I make a concerted effort to reply to every comment. Whether that’s on Facebook, Twitter, the site, whatever. Sometimes one will fall through the cracks. Same goes for email. If you have reached out to me and you want a response and I haven’t responded yet, just give me a friendly reminder. I reserve the right to amend this if things get really crazy.
If you leave a comment on the blog, I promise that I will not alter it. The only exception I will make for this is the case of obtuse use of profanity. If I feel like the comment adds value to the site in general and the topic at hand specifically, I may replace the profanity with asterisks or something like that and approve the comment. But if the comment uses profanity and doesn’t add value, I may just not approve the comment. I’ll try to err on the side of the commenter on this one.
Comments that are purely commercial in nature will likely not be approved. If you want to advertise, send me an email.
